Support Your Puppy’s Development With Training Classes In Hampshire

When puppies are aged about 9 weeks, they enter what’s known as their developmental stage. This is also the best time to start the socialisation process.

During this time, your furry friend will start exploring the world more confidently. To help them do this, the right training and socialisation should be in place. In particular, positive reinforcement is vital during this time: a technique we use at our training sessions in Hampshire and Surrey.

House training should also be in progress (though accidents are usually still common at this time!).

Ideal for dog owners in Hampshire and Surrey, Canine Kids is always happy to help with this process.

In terms of their health, puppies should have received their first round of vaccinations around 6-8 weeks. Regular veterinary check-ups are important to ensure they are growing healthily.

They also often start teething at this point, so providing appropriate chew toys is essential.

At 18 weeks, puppies are still in the latter part of their socialisation period, but are now entering what’s known as the ‘juvenile period’. You might find your dog starts becoming more independent and (like teenagers) start testing boundaries.

Ongoing training is therefore crucial, which a continued focus on basic commands, socialisation, and proper behaviour. Consistency and patience are essential as they may go through a ‘rebellious’ phase.

You also need to establish a consistent daily routine for feeding, playtime, training and sleeping. This will help your furry friend feel secure and well-adjusted. Proper care and training at these stages are vital for the development of a well-behaved and healthy adult dog.
